Frequently Asked Questions
If you need more help please contact us or visit our forum.
What do you offer?
We manage the collection and updating of promotions from networks and merchants. All promotions are hand-edited.
We provide a data feed of promotions via an XML API. You use this to power your site.
We offer two products: a basic data feed and a premium revenue share feed (containing more advanced information such as categorisation). Both feeds are free to sign up to!
Basic Feed
The Basic feed contains simple information about each promotion (description, start/end dates etc) and contains no tracking information/links.
Premium Revenue Share Feed
The Premium Revenue Share feed contains more advanced information such as categorisation and is offered on a revenue share basis. Each promotion in the feed has a unique tracked URL which you need to use in the merchant links on your site. We share 50% of the commission revenue with you.
The Premium Revenue Share feed also allows you to access methods other than get_promos (get_promos is the main method of the feed which provides the promotion records) such as get_merchants which returns a feed of merchants in our system. This is useful for structuring your directory on your site.
How do I get paid?
We work out the money and pay your commissions monthly.
Who is your market?
- People who already have established websites and want to add an extra revenue stream without doing any work.
- People with review/shopping websites that are worried about losing sales to voucher code sites.
- People with online skills who can drive traffic via SEO or PPC but who don't wish to manage collection of codes or relationships with networks or merchant's.
- People who want to own a discount site but not manage the backend.
- Basically anyone and everyone.
Where do I start?
Go to Publisher Sign Up and fill in the simple form to register with us. This creates your publisher account. Once you have created your account you will be able to log into the My Account control panel.
At this point you need to register your site(s) against your account. We ask that you register each site for the feed separately (rather than tying your access to the feed to your user account) so we can track the sales from each site individually.
How do I choose which data feed I want to use?
You choose this when you register your site(s) with us, not when you sign up to promotions.co.uk in the first place. You can register multiple sites under your user accounts, each with access to a different feed. You choose which feed you want to use on the Add Site form in the Your Sites section of your My Account control panel.
How does the XML data feed work?
The Promotions.co.uk data feed is a typical XML API. It is called via an API URL which includes query parameters identifying your site informaion as well as method and format requirements. Each successful call to the API results in the data feed being returned in XML format.
We have detailed information about how to access the API and interpret the feed returned. Please see the documentation section of the My Account control panel for our implementation guide. You need to have a user account and be logged in to access the documentation section. You can sign up for an account for free here.
Please note the response to the API method get_promos (the one that provides the promotions feed rather than (for example) the merchants feed) is also available as a Comma Separated Values (CSV) file. Please see the implementation guide in the documentation section for information about this.
What happens if I change the feed type for a site?
If you change from the Premium Revenue Share feed to the Basic feed all sales up to the change will still be tracked.
